POST-RELEASE International Exhibition Mebel’2010

Mebel’2010, the 22nd International Exhibition for Furniture, Fittings and Upholstery finished its work with success. The event took place at the Expocentre Fairgrounds on November 22-26, 2010.  

Mebel’2010, the largest in Russia and one of the  leading furniture industry shows in the world was arranged by Expocentre with the support from the Russian Federation Ministry of Industry and Trade, with the assistance and participation of  the Russian Union of Timber Industrialists and Exporters, Association of the Russian Furniture and Woodworking Industry Enterprises, Centromebel, ZAO and Centrlesexpo, OAO; under the patronage of the Russian Federation Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Moscow City Government.  

The Exhibition high status and importance for the Russian and global furniture market is confirmed with labels of the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI) and the Russian Union of Exhibitions and Fairs (RUEF).

Italian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Moscow Vittorio Claudio Surdo, Director of the Moscow Representation of the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade (ICE) Roberto Pelo and other distinguished guests took part in the opening ceremony of the 22nd International Exhibition Mebel’2010.   

887 companies from 28 countries were in the list of the Mebel’2010 Show participants. The total exposition space amounted to 72 584 sq. meters gross.

Companies from 8 countries that included Bulgaria, Croatia, Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, Romania and Spain presented their national expositions.

The exposition of Italy was the largest one among the foreign exhibitors. 130 well-known Italian furniture companies, united in a single national exposition, demonstrated high quality products and the refined Italian style on the area of 5 000 sq. meters. According to Umberto Vattani, President of the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade (ICE), the Mebel exhibition reflects state, trends and preferences of the Russian consumer who is the most exacting in the world. That is extremely important to Italian manufacturers as Russia is the largest Italian furniture importer that ranks fourth in the total volume of the Italian furniture export and leads among non-EC countries.      

Companies from Spain presented their national exposition for the 15th time at the Mebel Show. “We choose this exhibition as it is the most significant and prestigious one”, Javier Burgos Belaskoain, Head of the Trade and Economic Department of the Spanish Embassy in Moscow said at the opening ceremony.   “The crisis affected the furniture industry but it must impulse its development. We are optimistic about the future, especially as the following year 2011 is declared as the Year of Spain in Russia and the Year of Russia in Spain.  Many important events at the state level including the exhibition industry ones are planned within the bounds of the coming year”, Javier Burgos Belaskoain noted.

Leading foreign furniture manufacturers including WTB Group (Germany), Niemen (Finland), Bauschlinnemann (Germany), Recitel (Germany), Mobeliana Furniture (Egypt), Cilek (Turkey), Misr Toronto for Furniture (Egypt), Muebles Panamar (Spain), Montero (Spain), Ofifran (Spain), Kronospan (Austria), Raumplus (Germany), Blum (Germany), Hettih (Germany), Haefele (Germany) and many others were in the list of Mebel’2010 participants. Such companies as Sporvil (Portugal), Forma Ideale (Serbia), JetClass (Portugal) as well as other ones participated in the Exhibition for the first time.

There is no doubt that the participation of leading foreign furniture manufacturers allowed to appreciate competitive advantages of the industry leaders, to become acquainted with the furniture industry development trends as well as to establish effective business relations.    

The Exhibition subjects covered the main segments of the furniture industry and presented the state and trends of the furniture market development practically in full. In the opinion of participants and visitors of the event, grouping of Mebel’2010 into 7 thematic salons was effective and enabled them to reach maximum results at the exhibition. Due to the fact that the salons covered all segments of the furniture industry were logically located by pavilions, visitors could find the products they were interested in easily and participants could obtain their target group.

The exposition embraced the following salons: STYLE - international furniture (classics and modern); COMFORT - upholstered and cabinet furniture, upholstery materials; COMPONENTS - components and fittings for the furniture production; KITCHEN - Kitchen World (furniture, appliances and accessories); OFFICE - office and special-purpose furniture; DESIGN – interior design and DÉCOR - separate furniture and décor items.

The main subject of the Exhibition was City Apartment Interior Design. The participating companies demonstrated their new collections and proposed original and modern design solutions.  

The Mebel’2010 business-related programme was saturated with various events.   Contests, masterclasses, round tables, conferences, presentations and seminars were arranged throughout five days of the Exhibition. The participants learned about all news of the global furniture business, discussed problems and trends of the industry development.

This year the number of visitors exceeded the last year’s index by 10% and amounted to 45 340 people. At the same time the essential growth of professional visitors is evident. The Mebel’2010 Exhibition was visited by 39 450 specialists (87% of the total number of attendees).  The total visitor attendance made up 67 600.

The Show gave specialists and companies of the industry an exclusive opportunity to become acquainted with the best samples of furniture products, to obtain information on modern manufacturing technologies, furniture materials and components. 

The Show organizers will be glad to welcome participants and guests of the 23rd International Exhibition Mebel’2011. The event will take place at the Expocentre Fairgrounds on November 21-25, 2011.
